Mission StatementProposed: The Green Neighborhood Council promotes a sustainable way of life in our neighborhoods.
[The following text in Blue is just brainstorming (it has not been presented to the full Council yet, it will be presented at the January meeting)]
The vision of the Green Neighborhood Council is healthier and more sustainable neighborhoods through:
1. Reduced waste, Increased reuse, and Increased recycling;
2. Efficient Energy Useand Sustainable Clean Energy;
3. Local food purchase and production; and
4. Efficient water use and Improved Water Quality.
Proposed Activities:
-Tactic: Set up Subcommittees on specific tactics where people have energy to work. Generally these subcommittees will correspond to the four Objectives. Though some subcommittees will work on tactics that address one or more objective.
Target: Members of the Green Neighborhood Council
Timeline: January 16 General Green Neighborhood Council Meeting
Budget: None
-Tactic: Develop a Monthly workshop for Green Living. Obj. 1, 2, 3, 4
-Target: The general public
-Timeline: Jan-Feb 2008 develop a 6-12 schedule of topics and begin lining up speakers. Feb 2008 roll-out the first monthly Green Living workshop in Omaha.
-Budget: Advertising, Printing, Prizes (for those present to win)
-Tactic: Collaborate with the Omaha World Herald for a Green Living Column at least once per month. Obj. 1, 2, 3, 4
-Target: The general public
-Timeline: Jan-Feb 2008 establish contact with OWH to find out how to proceed and if it is feasible. If feasible, first appearance should be March or April 2008 (Perhaps April in conjunction with Earth Day)
-Budget: Just the time of volunteers to write the article. Perhaps an agreement could be reached with the OWH to pay the GOC for each article written as a fund-raising mechanism.
-Tactic: Develop a Green Neighborhood Scorecard to identify opportunities and benchmark progress. Obj. 1, 2, 3, 4
-Target: Neighborhood Associations
-Timeline: Jan-Feb 2008 Set up initial subcommittee meeting to iron out details. Roll-Out Summer 2008
-Budget: Printing, Advertising (an OWH article could be published), Website survey development?
-Tactic: Phase I: Identify existing Green programs/resources in Omaha.
-Tactic: Phase II: Establish collaboration and communication with green organizations
-Tactic: Phase III: Assemble in the form of a Green Omaha Directory
